On July 22, 2007, my brother in law, Mike Coolbaugh, was struck by a line drive while coaching first base with the Tulsa Drillers. He was killed instantly and our lives will forever be changed. Since that time, Major League Baseball has implemented the requirement to wear batting helmets while on the field coaching and taking steps to improve the safety of the game. Although a helmet may not have saved his life, when your family experiences a tragedy such as this, we are humbled and honored that his life was not in vain and that baseball takes care of its own.
